About Me
I am a passionate filmmaker, science communicator and storyteller, my focus is on visually translating Setswana Culture and Tradition onto screen through Natural History to tell authentic Setswana stories. My experience within the Film & Television Industry both locally and internationally has contributed to some of Botswana’s firsts’ in television and film.
Bio / CV
Tumi Sejoe is a science communicator, filmmaker and storyteller based and from Botswana. She is a 2024 African School of Storytelling (AFRISOS) Alumna where she attended an 11 Day Great Spine of Africa Storytelling Expedition Workshop in the Okavango Delta in Botswana (powered by AFRISOS, Great Spine of Africa, & Wild Bird Trust), a 2023 African Science Film Alumna where she joined the first cohort of African Science Filmmakers (supported by HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, NEWF, National Geographic Society, and Gorongosa National Park), a 2020 Network By Diplomacy Alumna of The Federal Republic of Germany - where she was invited to attend the 70th Berlin International Film Festival as part of an international delegation of 25 filmmakers from around the world. A 2018 Berlinale Talents Durban Alumna, selected amongst 19 emerging African film makers from the continent which included; Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Sudan. She partook in the BBC Mentorship Programme in London, BBC Headquarters, early in her career. She is also a Nature, Environment, Wildlife Film Fellow (NEWF). Tumi is a former Board Member & Treasurer of the Alliance Francaise - Botswana. Her recent work body of work which reflects her transition into Nature, Wildlife, Environment storytelling includes co-directing a Wildhope Episode Guano Gold (HHMI Tangled Bank Studio’s) which went on to make 2025 Official Selection of Jackson Wild’s Wildlife Day Showcase and also aired on PBS Nature. Her debut natural history/science short film The Element of Life With Amade Real made 2025 official selection at the 2025 World Bronx ArtHouse Showcase at La Nacional in New York, USA.
